A lovely fragrant annual herb, Anise also known as Aniseed is native to the Mediterranean. The plant has beautiful soft ferny leaves and it produces umbels of airy, lacy white (sometimes yellow) flowers in mid to late summer. Makes a dainty filler in bouquets. Butterflies and other beneficial insects love this herb. Anise has a long history of medicinal use. Not to be confused with Star Anise (Illicium verum) which is actually a tree.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS

Start seeds indoors in trays or pots in late winter or sow directly into garden beds in spring. If starting indoors, sow seeds in a moist, free draining, good quality seed raising mix. Cover lightly with a sprinkling of soil. Sowing Anise and Coriander seeds together improves germination and growth. Leave in a warm and sunny position. Transplant outdoors when plants are large enough to handle.
